Received the results of my second DNA/geneology test yesterday, - TopicsExpress

Received the results of my second DNA/geneology test yesterday, this one done by DNA Spectrum, which went back further to trace my genetic DNA markers. It is again confirmation that I am a walking, talking European Union with Iberian coming up as most dominant in the test. It does show an apparent non-European bloodline (although small) from Colombia and Cape Verde which I found surprising and want to research more. So here are some of the findings.... First, not only is my Spanish side Castilian but also some Catalan as well (but Im still a Real Madrid man!). Second, it details more of the 9% Italy/Greece finding I received on the previous (AncestryDNA) test; primarily traced to northern Italy but some also to the Greek region of Thrace, the former much more recent than the latter. Third, it details the path my Germanic ancestors took from the east and the result was that any connection I have to Central Asia or Eastern Europe goes far back to these migrations and not anything recent. Fourth, I have some genetic markers commonly seen among the Bouhria Berbers of northern Morocco. Confirms the connection I felt with them through the Iberians and my strong sympathy for the Berbers (Amazigh). Fifth, a mystery for me was always my real paternal grandfather, who died when my dad was very young and he was later adopted by the man whom for all intents and purposes was my grandfather. Now, my real grandfather was American and stationed in Europe when he met my grandmother, and this side was a mystery. So the test filled in some possible details.... Apparently, what came up was Melungeon, which from my research were a mixed people (more of a collection of people brought together by socio-economic status)mostly descended from various European indentured servants with some blacks in North Carolina and Virginia who later moved out west to various places in the U.S. To the primarily Irish element I knew from the other test is also added some Norwegians who immigrated to the U.S., as well as Portuguese from Madeira (and probably from this, Cape Verdean) through this side. This means that I have deeper roots in the U.S. on one of my four sides (my fathers paternal side) than I previously knew about (my dad and grandmother immigrated from Germany in 1957, his fathers side being American but I didnt know about it; and on my maternal side all four of my great-grandparents immigrated from Belgium in the 1910s and 1920s). Finally, it confirms (like the previous test) that there is no Jewish, Russian, Arabic, Asiatic, African (aside from Cape Verdean and Berber), Native American (the Colombian I dont know if its immigrant or what), or Pacific Islander/Aboriginal, as well as most Slavic...results in my blood.
