Recent studies from the US and European Union say that Bisphenol-A (BPA) is safe. "The public should be confident that BPA is one of the most studied chemicals and has a safety track record of 50 years. The European Food Safety Agency EFSA, the US Food and Drug Administration FDA and other regulatory bodies from around the world have concluded that the science supports the safety of BPA in its current uses, including its continued use in food-contact products. "In July 2013, in its draft assessment on human BPA-exposure, the European Food Safety Authority EFSA confirmed the authority´s earlier findings that exposure is extremely low and in fact even lower than previously estimated by the agency. "In June 2013, the US Food and Drug Administration FDA unequivocally reconfirmed that BPA is safe for its approved uses: Is BPA safe? Yes. Based on FDA’s ongoing safety review of scientific evidence, the available information continues to support the safety of BPA for the currently approved uses in food containers and packaging. fda.gov/Food/IngredientsPackagingLabeling/FoodAdditivesIngredients/ucm355155.htm
