Recent viewings: Man of Tai Chi-*** Keanu Reeves directorial debut is this stunningly choreographed fight film set in Chinese underground. The film doesnt add anything new to the genre but offers a plethora of hard nosed fight scenes to satisfy even the most discriminate martial arts fan. Reeves chews scenario as the main villain and shows off his ample martial arts training from Matrix series. Blue Ruin-***1/2 The film is a cold, quiet and rather brutal revenge flick. A homeless man out to avenge his parents murder initiates a family feud. The story isnt particularly original but its presentation puts it in rare company. Reminiscent of Coen Brothers Blood Simple. One of last years finest films. Quarantine 2-** The followup to the American remake of REC puts the action at 30,000 as the virus finds its way on board an airplane. The film lacks spark, but offers enough blood thirsty zombie action for those in need of a zombie fix. The zombie virus doesnt raise the dead but is closer to rabies. It is transferred through bite and body fluids. Typical sequel doesnt reach the heights of its predecessor.
