Recently, African Development Bank says, Nigeria’s effort to reduce poverty rate by 2015 seems weak. A statement contained in the African economic outlook, an annual report of the bank, made available to NAN in Abuja. Additionally, statistic revealed that 70% of the citizens are living under the international poverty line of $1.25per day, that’s roughly 112 million men, women and children (who are trying to pay for the basics: food, health, shelter and education on just $1.25 each day). United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, (UNESCO) made public that the 2013 out-of-school data which indicates that 10.5m Nigerian children are not in the school also the former Vice President of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar classed the current security challenges threatening the nation as worser than the civil war. poverty, education, security and flooding not yet tackled. nigerian schoolYet, our so-called Legislators are raising voices, creating rumpus, launching blasphemy and character assassinating and above all promoting sectional and religious unrest with issues such as State House autonomy, Local Government autonomy, Girls rights and the likes. The fact is that you deny a child education which is the most important aspect of his/her right and you are there rumpusing about a controversial right. Laughable! is the character of our legislators, today they are ranked the most highest paid worldwide reported by the economist with a basic salary of N30.6m per annum. Although, over 60% of the Legislators haven’t impact any positive result to their constituent. I deemed it more imperative to look at our security institutions (Police, S.S.S and Military) for proper review, reform and restructuring of their functions and operations within and outside the nation because the present security threat exposes the extent to which these institution have been jeopardized. Lets analyzed the situation, the state governor is the chief security of the state, being the chief executive of that state in which his chief security is a police officer, his Chief detail is an S.S.S officer this arithmetic i think isn’t correct. The salary of our security is coming from the federal government while the fund for their job is coming from the state government. Police Commissioner is answerable to the governor likewise the director S.S.S. Most of the State Governments would not realise or circumvent the fund for their personal aggrandisement until the state is in trouble. That’s the main reason why artificial chaos are created despite this, low ranked officers are sent for street patrols, task force and the likes. allah sawake *Abamu na goro* roja dey go!!! (no be return we dey give every day!) yet no reward for their labour from the superiors rather they tax bus drivers and commercial and motorcyclist a N50 levy (Bribe), systematically, legalizing bribe for their subordinates. It’s high time our government, activist, and every stake holders of Nigeria’s growth and development critically and sincerely search for the oasis sight as our nation is looming into drought.oasis Our worst security menace (Boko Haram) started with the police under a state Governor’s order strike and killed the leader of a militant group according to the most related source . Ever since the outbreak of this menace our income has been wasted in trying to tackle the security threat, over 20% of Nigeria’s budget is vested on the issue of security. Yet, we don’t see any progress rather the government have successfully circumvented this fund into their pockets and instigating the chaos through the back door. By not providing for our security the government is openly expressing its incompetency “security represents your sense of worth, your identity, your emotional anchorage, your self-esteem, your basic personal strength or lack of it.” Covey Stephen. My call upon my fellow Compatriot we should call upon our Legislator to change the current system, of State function and some operational funding while basic salary from the Federal. This would reduce the spending of the so-called security vote which is always in and around the nation, since there isn’t any provision for auditing. Also, Federal Government can withdraw the security vote and hand it over to N.S.A for distribution to various state that will enhance the security in our beloved nation. Another alarming situation is the issue of special warrant which is issued almost every month in some states. Special warrant is a security money that can withdraw any time with out the approval of state house of assembly . Which gives our politician the pleasure to squander funds in the name of security. Fellow Compatriot, i enjoined us all to rise and oppose this system of State Police by funding and function and federal by name. The attention of our legislators should be called in redressing this act of State Police. Furthermore, apart from the financial aspect of the policy, the stability and credibility of our nations politics has been ruined by this system because politicians holding different offices often use the Police to meet their personal goals (Providing safe haven to election malpractices, subjugating opponents and so on). As early cited, Nigeria’s security headache of today is as a result of infeasibility of this system and other discrepancies that would be discussed in the future articles. Are you a politician asking what your country can do for you or a zealous one asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite; if the second, then you are an oasis in the desert. Khalil Gibran “Are you a politician asking what your country can do for you or a zealous one asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite; if the second, then you are an oasis in the desert”. Khalil Gibran Nigeria is said to be imitating the political/democratic system of America why don’t we borrow their security policy. In which on the federal level the F.B.I, C.I.A, D.E.A, B.O.P and other Federal bodies funded and answerable to the Federal whereas, the Sheriffs, State Police, State Patrol or Highway Patrol falls under the arm and sponsorship of the state. This sytem would really benefit and scrutinize our polity and security issues until which, we will keep wandering in the wrong side of the desert searching for the Oasis.
