Recently I attended a wedding ceremony and afterwards overheard - TopicsExpress

Recently I attended a wedding ceremony and afterwards overheard one of the parents say Its a shame hardly anyone watched and enjoyed my daughter getting married. Everyone was looking through their phones. Its no secret Ive been a strong supporter of going unplugged for wedding ceremonies. Where all guests put away their devices and actually witness two people getting married. Yet even though I inform every couple that meet with me about this, even though the celebrant makes a request for everyone to put their devices away out of respect for the families and even though its on the invitations people still cant help themselves when the time comes. The ceremonies I have been apart of that have been completely device-free have been amazing. Each time the bride has emailed me the week after saying how great it was to actually connect with people in the audience - friends and family she hasnt seen in years - and for them to connect with her. Unfortunately from what I am witnessing each weekend its getting worse. I have seen guests physically stop the bride during the procession to get a snap with their iPhone. Ive had guests sneak up behind me during the vows to balance their device on my shoulder. Ive even seen a bride come to tears because she couldnt see her husband-to-be when she walked up the aisle and see his reaction. A huge moment in time that many in her shoes often dream about 1000 times before it actually happens. I plan on putting together a short clip from the footage Ive captured over the past year of how bad things have become. I am sure you can all imagine it, but I believe this could be one heck of an eye-opener. This video has been making the rounds today on social media so Id like to share it as it goes with what I am talking about. Its a bit sappy, but the message is powerful.
