Recently I have been seeing women advertising to other women via Facebook (namely, the buy and sell groups) to try a new cleansing product that supposedly makes you lose weight. They used pictures to show before and after shots taken 9 days apart. The girl claimed to have lost just over 3 KG in those 9 days. The pictures looked indifferent. After looking into this, I found out the cleansing product is Aloe Vera. They advertise this product like it is an antioxidant cleaning your body, ridding it of all its toxins. In fact, what this product does in reality is create a lot of bowel movement. Not only do I find this misleading to women who genuinely want to lose weight, but rather irresponsible (in regard to the seller). While Aloe Vera is good for treating skin burns, it can be harmful when ingested orally over long periods of time. Some people would probably turn to drinking this every day for weeks on end in order to try and lose more weight. Aloe vera can also irritate the digestive system. cancer.org/treatment/treatmentsandsideeffects/complementaryandalternativemedicine/herbsvitaminsandminerals/aloe Aloe leaves and aloe latex contain chemicals with laxative properties. These substances are classified as stimulant laxatives and can irritate the intestines. There are a number of dietary and medical approaches to treating constipation that are proven to be safer and work better than aloe products. Finally, there have been reports from doctors that aloe taken by mouth can cause hepatitis (serious liver inflammation) when taken for more than a few weeks.
