Recently I have posted a number of articles on the plight of adjunct faculty. Before you write that tuition check for your kid, ask about the percentage of adjuncts and TAs on the teaching staff. Also ask about the pay scale for adjuncts. Then consider the cost per credit hour for tuition, and the size of a typical survey class. Do the same before you write a check to your alumni association, or to the professional society in your field. The numbers are not pretty.
