Recently, I overheard someone pondering how many people die every day. Initially, I found the question rather morbid. I then realized that must be why they call it morbid curiosity. However, the gears were already turning and my best efforts to stop them have so far been unsuccessful. Their pitch became so loud tonight that I went off to find the answer, once and for all I reasoned that all the information I would need is total population and average life expectancy. Both elements were easy to find within seconds via the internet. While I now plan an elaborate chart to diagram the death rate, by country, for all of the countries of the world, tonight I will only provide my overall findings as well as the information specific to America. As of midnight tonight the website worldometers.info listed the global population at 7,252,516,924. The World Health Organization finds that global life expectancy to be a tidy 70.0 years. Multiplying life expectancy by 365.25 days, the actual number of days each year when removing leap years, I came up with an average life span of 25,567.5. I then divided the total population by this figure to determine that worldwide 283,661 people die every day. Following the same process specific to America with population data provided by the US Census and life expectancy data from the Centers for Disease Control, I found that every day our great nation experiences the passing of 29,147 people. I may write a book on all of the other extrapolations this data can provide. In the meantime, Im going to take advantage of the silence and catch some shut-eye.
