Recently I read a statistic that showed Christian couples spend a staggering amount of money on literature related to marriage, marriage counseling and attending marriage enrichment retreats yet the divorce rate remains a little above 50%. At the risk of raising the ire of the latest marriage gurus, writers, counselors, etc Im going to suggest a radically simple yet effective approach to marriage invigoration that has worked for my SweetOne and I for well over 44 years. It doesnt have a name and no books, videos or group Bible studies have been written because you and your Loved One are the authors. Though the fundamentals are the same there is room for flexibility that depends on your age. Here is what you need: 50 miles of open road and a car with a radio/CD/MP3 player that works (or if you are among the gray-hairs a cassette or even 8 track will do fine). Play on said musical system your favorite love songs while you drive along. Stop at a nearby coffee shop for Mocha, double shot, extra sweet to drink as you travel (greasy french fries, donuts, etc. are optional). Heres the important part. As you travel sing to one another as loud as you can and whoever is on the passenger side is allowed to do some smooching without distracting the driver too much. In between songs tell your Loved One how much you love her/him, trade smiles and do some in your seat dancing, tapping of feet and clapping of hands. Youll know youre doing this right when you get a thumbs up from the driver in the car behind you. Upon arrival at home, top off your road trip with one final, song you can dance to very slow. If this does not re-invigorate your marriage, turn up the fire in your heart for your Loved One and make you the happiest husband and wife on earth please call the local funeral parlor because you must be dead.
