Recently, I received 2 important emails. My paper has been accepted to be published in an upcoming conference in Lisbon, Portugal in this May and I was accepted to become lab tutor for the engineering department in Cambridge starting next week. Alhamdulillah and thanks to my supervisor and adviser. Well, at the same time, I believe the hardship for not playing Dota this recent weeks has been paid off too. Haha Anyway, let’s get serious here. Last week, my supervisor told me a thing. “Most students do not see how important to be part and active in any students societies or clubs.” *Then he cough for a while. He was a bit sick that day*. “You know, Nazrin, these clubs thing actually give impacts indirectly for the students and one of them is to be realistic. Everything is easier said than done, especially when dealing with projects. But to get the project done, most students just couldnt see it how, you people thought research is easy come and go.” Well, I was quite surprised to get such advice from him. I thought he was a total geek who only cares about his works. Well, I was totally wrong. Haha With that, I believe Masca indirectly contributed for what I have achieved today. MASCA is the Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia. Well, being part of MASCA was one of the best decisions that I had ever made in my whole life. It taught me to be dependable instead of dependent. To lead yourself is the essence to lead the others. To shut up and think before I speak. To not underestimate people nor things. To ask whenever I do not know and more. With MASCA, I met, spoke and shared my ideas with CEOs, politicians, NGOs and activists. I dare to say without being in MASCA, I don’t think I will be where I am right now. Don’t get me wrong. This does not make MASCA greater or cheaper than other councils or societies. The benefits apply to all societies and councils too as long as we put as much efforts as we should and possibly could. Shout out to all Malaysian students, whether you are studying in local universities or overseas, invest yourself into societies or councils. Believe it or not. This is the first major step to change our country. It is us who will change the state of our country in the future and it can be either good or bad. And I suppose being a keyboard warrior and the flaming blamer wouldnt make the world a better place, my fellow comrades. “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” – Gilbert K. Chesterton. Class is not the only place to get the education, but the world is. And blaming the government solely on education without any self-initiatives is just wrong, my friends. Here is a preview on the council that I am so proud to be part of. Thanks :)
