Recently I was bought some pretty fancy Organic butter, it cost me £5.99 and to be honest I was hugely disappointed. Pay peanuts get monkeys - This sentiment works well with personal trainers, I thought it may work with butter - it doesnt. By now you should all know the huge benefits of butter over margarine. So which butter is the best Dave ? I hear you ask... Well, It used to be a tie between Kerrygold and Anchor. But Anchor have stopped using grass fed cows to produce their butter and now Kerrygold is like Lionel Richie, whilst Anchor is more like Lionel Blair. Next time youre in Tesco, do what my friend Mark Sissons does. Wrap your hand around a bar of Kerrygold. Give it a gentle squeeze. See how it gives? See how you leave an indentation? That’s because those cows have been eating so much green grass that their butterfat has been imbued with omega-3 fats and conjugated linoleic acid, which are unsaturated and thus softer at refrigerated temperatures. Now unwrap it. Yes, right there in the store. (You’ll be buying it in a minute anyway). See how yellow it is? That’s beta-carotene from – again – all the green grass those cows are eating. Now give it a little taste - Get some of that sweet sweet Kerrygold on your tongue. Savour its descent back into cream. Now try and do the same for the random organic butter Give it a squeeze. You can’t; it’s rock hard. Give it a look; it’s white with maybe a tinge of pale yellow. Now give it a nibble; it melts into grease, not creamy velvet. When it comes to butter, the organic part doesn’t matter nearly as much as the grass-fed part. Dont get caught eating it though - Youll get some funny looks and then that big security bloke will come over and ask Are you going to buy that organic butter ? When you say no way, its not as good as Kerrygold, youll be taken to the office in the back, (near the toilets) and then you will be given the option - buy it, or the police will be called. You have to apologise and then buy it, even though its shite, Your taste test grass fed explanation didnt wash with them and now you have to shop at Sainsburys - 8 miles away, as youre too embarrassed to go back to Tesco, at least for a couple of weeks. (Or so Im told... :)
