Recently Ive overtaken a learner in a 40mph road, which was nice - TopicsExpress

Recently Ive overtaken a learner in a 40mph road, which was nice and clear, after Ive followed the learner for a while, who was quite hesitant through a couple of roundabouts and another 40 zone with just a little over 30mph. The learner was moving away from the second roundabout into a wide 40mph road and simply didnt pick up speed. I was waiting if he/she would pick up a bit more speed but when they were dragging just about towards 27, 28mph, I flashed my lights and overtook. As I was doing so, the learner suddenly started to speed up (maybe he/she has finally found the correct gear?) and when my nose was just in front, my speedometer was at 40. The learner was picking up further and slowly pushed forward (they must have done about 42). I got a few mph over the speed limit, as otherwise Id either have had to brake to get all the way back and behind, or taking too long to get fully past. I just about made it. I wouldnt be surprised the learners instructor commenting something silly about me. It seems that the learner has taken my overtaking as a reminder to progress away, but ignoring that one should check mirrors before speeding up and let overtaking traffic pass. Many drivers probably react just like this - when they see a learner car (OMG, a learner car overtaking!?), theyll speed up. Therefore, when in the Driving School car, I often find myself NOT overtaking where otherwise Id easily have done so, just because someone might get upset and react in a silly way. I can imagine that Im not the only one here, am I?
