Recently NBC reported that the B3 Vitamin Niacin was a harmful Drug and is not effective in lowering cholesterol. I saw this and was a bit shocked by it because I had just completed research on this Vitamin. The research study that NBC is reporting on was funded by pharmaceutical companies (MEREK, AMGEN, and ROCHE). These companies have a vested interest in making sure that a cheap Vitamin is not recommended over prescribed medications. This research contradicts the research that was done by Dr. Hoffer (who also had a 90% cure rate of schizophrenia with Niacin) and also that of a doctor William Parsons Jr. who also proved that Niacin was effective in raising HDL and lowering LDL. It is very sad how easily the media can be used to sway peoples opinions and in this particular case to demonize an important and essential Vitamin.
