Recently, a group of Avon Park Depot Museum members took an unofficial Amtrak rail trip to Winter Park, Florida aboard the Silver Meteor. The group lunched in the dining car and arrived in Winter Park two hours later. Reservations were at the Park Plaza Hotel which was built in 1922. On arrival, happy hour was spent street side with the locals and then dinner inside. Up early in the morning and after a hearty breakfast at the Briarpatch Restaurant the group took in some sight seeing with a tour of the Morse Museum and the works and art of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Soon it was time to board the 12:30 return Silver Meteor to Sebring. Depot members were Elaine and Larry Levey, Judy and Don Laycock and Jim Deal.
