Recently my incredible and stunning wife was honored at the Actors Union (UBCP).. here in Vancouver. Every remark that follows was said on her behalf at the award ceremony where Winnie Hung became the youngest member to have received this honor of Life Time Membership. Awarded to her for her continuous service and volunteer work.. Winnie, I dont have the words.. you humble me and show me a better way every day.. Here are the remarks of Treasurer Keith Martin Gordey: I have the honour and great pleasure of presenting this award to this year’s recipient. Winnie Hung is a person who is very easy to get to know. Not only is she affable and charming, which helps, she is ubiquitous. If you spend any time at the union offices you are bound to bump into her sooner or later. If you attend union meetings or industry events or even the BC Federation of Labour chances are you will see her. And in my experience, if you want to make a difference, 90% of it is just showing up. Winnie shows up. And she makes a difference. Winnie Hung graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and has worked in the field of Human Resources. A performer since 1989 and a UBCP member since 1992, Winnie most enjoys her work as a character actor and has brought her talent to recurring roles on several Canadian series such as: Madison, Godivas and Health Nutz. Winnies other passion extends to volunteer efforts especially for womens organizations. One of her favorite quotes is: Actions speak louder than words. Winnie is most inspired by those who are active in making a meaningful difference either directly or indirectly in the lives of others and in so doing, enriching their own. Winnie also feels very fortunate to enjoy travel and in 2013 she was able to experience many different countries and cultures with her love actor Willie Aames, whom she married this year. She has never served on the Executive Board, she’s never been on staff, but she has and continues to, regularly give of herself to our Union wherever she perceives a need. Over the last twenty years Winnie Hung has been continuously active within UBCP whether it has been stuffing envelopes or volunteering her time on numerous committees, the Principal Performers committee, the Women’s Committee among others, and most recently on the By-law Review Committee where she brought her sense of fairness, her wisdom and experience and her profound concern for the wellbeing of all her fellow members to the process. And I know she doesn’t think that what she does is anything special. So we have to add modesty to the list of her attributes. And grateful. In her bio she says, “Winnie is very grateful to UBCP and those members and staff who have been kind enough to assist her in her annual Christmas gift bag project by collecting donations used to create gift bags for women shelters in the downtown east side.” Well, it is clear to me that we are the ones who ought to be grateful, and we are. Winnie thank-you for all you do. It is my honour and great pleasure, on behalf of the membership, to present you with the Honorary Life Member Award as recognition for your service to UBCP. I could not be more proud of you sweetheart... XOXOXOX
