Recently the Redford Township Police Department purchased a Nikon - TopicsExpress

Recently the Redford Township Police Department purchased a Nikon Total Station for use in accident and crime scene investigation. The Total Station and related equipment were purchased with money from the SAD, and the purchase was made from Instrument Sales which is a business in Redford Township on Acacia at Telegraph. The Total Station is an electronic measurement device used in surveying. For our use it will be used at crime and accident scenes to take measurements, then that information is downloaded into a computer program. The program will then create a scene diagram and do much of the math computation needed in accident reconstruction. Total Stations are used by the majority of the police departments in our area. The use of a Total Station cuts down on the time needed to map out a scene, which is crucial when roadways are closed during heavier traffic times. It also reduces the time officers are needed to close the roadways and do the accident reconstruction, reducing overtime and keeping our officers on patrol.
