Recently there was an alter ego shout in Bangalore “Can you refer a good fertility test clinic. P.S. instead of making fun kindly help”. I was wondering why a shout like this have to come through an Alter Ego profile. Why do we need a different identity to ask this question. Isn’t just like asking which doctor is the best? How many of us can go and buy a condom just how we buy a chocolate? How many gals can tell her friend who is a boy that she is going to buy sanitary pads? How many gals are bold enough to say that they are having periods? I still remember during my college days I took a gal out to reliance fresh to buy our day to day stuffs. After entering the shop suddenly the gal got very uneasy. She was like “you go I will come back, You get your stuff billed I will still take time” etc. Like a dumb guy I was still insisting we do it together. Suddenly I got a call and by the time I came back, she has done her shopping and got the stuffs billed. When I went to the counter I found her hiding her sanitary napkin inside the carry bag before I could see it. The situation is much more worse in local kirana shops. Whenever you buy sanitary napkins they will nicely wrap it up in a newspaper, just like how the beer shop will put the bear in a black polythene. Why we need to hide these? Why we Indians are attaching so much of taboo to humanly things? Why are we feeling so embarrassed to do things which are totally normal? We don’t feel bad to spit on the road, pee on a transformer but feel shy to buy a condom or sanitary napkin etc. We don’t need an alter ego to talk or ask about normal things. May be its time to break the shackles. Note: This is not Team Shout Studio opinion. It is an exact reproduction of the mail written to us buy one of the shouter.
