Recently we became fathers of a beautiful miniature dachshund and we have named her Zippa. We would have preferred a larger dog but because everything here in The Netherlands is soooo expensive (including dog food) we realised we could never afford to feed a Doberman or a Weimaraner. Nevertheless he has settled in well and we love her very much. To save money we have been watching ‘Cesar Millan the dog whisperer’ and trying to train her ourselves but it’s not working as effectively as we had hoped. We have come to the realisation that we need to take her to ‘Puppy Course – Dog Obedience’. We are looking for a very good quality school but it has to be cheap and close to the city center. Can anyone recommend a school? We bought Zippa from a registered dog breeder near Tilburg and were given a complimentary ‘Puppy starters kit”. Included in the kit was puppy dog food from Royal Canin, a leash and booklets about puppy care. All of these things were in a stylish bag with a shoulder strap. We have read the booklets, she has eaten the food and we use the leash but with the bag we have no further use. We would like to put it up for sale here on ‘Expat’s in The Hague’ FaceBook page. It has hardly been used, I think €15 is a reasonable price…interested?....P.M me. One more thing I need to share with you all. When we first brought Zippa home she didn’t seem to eat very much. We were worried. We thought veterinary care in The Netherlands would be similar to the medical care here and were reluctant to seek professional advice. However we took her to a vet, explained the situation and he was wonderful. He immediately ordered a complete blood workup, a MRI scan, X-rays, EMG and a CT scan. There was luckily nothing wrong with our dog but psychologically we were at rest. If you need his number just let me know.
