Recently we discussed about the importance of absolute strength for the purposes of improving weightlifting performance and not to worry so excessively about over-drilling technique and banging your head against a wall getting nowhere when your strength sucks (squat, pull, front squat, press, etc). Just came across this article on Chinese weightlifters and the direct quote is: Coaches work on finding weaknesses the athletes need to work on. Absolute strength is more important than speed strength. They don’t care how fast the athletes squat or pull is. One must be fast regardless of how they train.
