Recently we have noticed Sophia is having a very difficult time with visual scanning. This can make many tasks difficult and frustrating throughout her day. As we get ready to enter kindergarten we are working on our pre-literacy skills and this is a monumental hurdle we need to overcome. However we use visual scanning on a daily basis more than I have ever thought about. For instance; how about when you need to find a toy in the playroom, a spoon in the silverware drawer, a shirt in your dresser drawer, the soccer ball in the backyard, the juice box in the refrigerator, and the list goes on! The link below has some slides that attempt to make you realize what it is like for someone with these types of learning disabilities to visually scan. No wonder Sophia is trying to escape or avoid the therapists when they are attempting visual scanning tasks!!! ncld.org/types-learning-disabilities/what-is-ld/two-minutes-in-your-childs-shoes
