Reciting a chapter of the Quraan for the dead. All perfect - TopicsExpress

Reciting a chapter of the Quraan for the dead. All perfect praise and adorations be to Allaah Jalla wa alaa. We beseech His peace and blessings upon Noble Prophet Muhammad (sollaLloohu alayhi wasallam). We have found many of muslims reciting some verses of the Quraan or even chapters of the Quraan upon the dead. Some of the so called alfas surpass the limit of the shareea by reciting chapters of the Quraan at the grave side for the deceased one. We must understand that reciting Quraan for the deceased at the grave side is not permissible in the shareea. As for reciting verses of the Quraan for the deceased with the intention of meeting the deceased as a rahma; then this is not permissible as there is no establishment for such in the shareea. Some of those who engage in this say that their evidence is that the Quraan is a shifaa(cure). However, we say that: Indeed Yes! the Quraan is shifaa but Shifaahu liman? (Shifaa for whom?). As we indeed wonder what shifaa we desire for the deceased ones after their demise. We must understand that the principle of reciting the Quraan is that the one who recites the Quraan is the one that will take the reward of the recitation. There are authentic narrations establishing the duaa to be recited for the deceased. From the simplest of it is the one reported by Al-Imaam Aboo Zakariyya ibn Yahya An-nawawee (rahimahuLlaah) in Kitaabul Adhkaar: اللهم اغفر له وارحمه Allaahumma Igfir lahu warhamhu Oh Allaah forgive him and have mercy on him. (This is for the deceased male) As for the female; we say: اللهم اغفرلها وارحمها Allaahumma igfir laha warhamha. Oh Allaah forgive her and have mercy on her.
