Reconciliation of Aggrieved Rivers PDP Members Omehia, Owate, Ogbowu, Others Lead 69-man Committee The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has set up a 69-man committee aimed at reconciling all aggrieved members of the party into its fold. The committees which have been split into three, in line with the Senatorial Districts of Rivers East, Rivers South East and Rivers West respectively, were given 7 days beginning from Tuesday, 23rd December, 2014 to submit their reports. Addressing journalists and party members at the PDP State Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, State Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah said the action became necessary as the party would not commence full electioneering campaigns without putting its house in order by reconciling all aggrieved members. He said the members of the committees were carefully chosen by the leadership of the party in order to achieve its objectives, one of which is to win the forthcoming elections. “The party expects you all to make difficult positions to be simple and make seemingly impossible cases to be possible so that we can rightly say we are the first in the state. “Our goal is to reinforce our capacity, strengthen our bond of brotherhood and enhance our unity as a party so that we can sweep the forthcoming elections with effortless ease” Obuah said, adding “we must commence our campaigns as a stronger party, more united and more energized to defeat the APC in all our elections in 2015”. Bro. Obuah, who is popularly called Go Round by his admirers, explained that rancour and disagreements were common features in democratic dispensations, adding they were not peculiar with the PDP. “It is common knowledge that in every contest, somebody will win and some others will lose. It is not an easy thing to win or lose but wherever we find ourselves as members of PDP, we must remember that the interest of the party is paramount and supreme” he said. Former Governor of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia who chairs the Rivers West Senatorial District Committee spoke on behalf of the 68 other members. He noted that despite the seeming crisis which threatened the party, PDP still remained the party to beat both in the state and country at large. Omehia described the setting up of the committees as significant, as it marked the partys first major action after the primaries, saying it was rare privilege to be entrusted with such important assignment. “There were many persons in Israel but Jesus chose 12 apostles. They did not fail Jesus, so we will not fail the party in this onerous task” he submitted, adding that they would do their best to ensure that all aggrieved members of the party are reunited into the fold in view of the challenges ahead.
