Recordings of 911 calls in Detroit and Dearborn Heights are shedding new light on the sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting of Renisha McBride. It was 12:57 a.m. on Nov. 2 when a 911 call was made, reporting an accident involving a car and a parked car at the intersection of Bramell and Majestic Streets in Detroit. The caller reports the driver, now believed to be Renisha McBride, was leaving the scene. At 1:23 a.m. another 911 call is made, reporting the driver appeared to return to the scene and appeared to be intoxicated. An EMS vehicle arrived ten minutes later. At 2:50 a.m. with still no sign of the driver, emergency crews cleared the scene and the car was towed. At 4:46 a.m. a Dearborn Heights police dispatcher reported a shooting on West Outer Drive, less than a mile from the Detroit accident scene. Received a 911 call from a male, thinks he just shot someone on his porch. He hung up. Were trying to call back, the dispatcher said. One minute later, at 4:47 a.m. the dispatcher reports reconnecting with the man who fired the shot. We have a male on line that states he doesnt know this person, the dispatcher said. Police later identified the victim as 19-year-old Renisha McBride. Investigators said she was shot in the face, not at close range. The Wayne County Medical Examiners office has ruled the death a homicide, but as of now, no charges have been filed in the case. The Wayne County Prosecutors office is still reviewing the case. It has requested more information from the Dearborn Heights police department. It is also waiting for a toxicology report from the medical examiners office.
