Recreational harvest of Vermilion Snapper now remains open after Nov 1, 2013 The seasonal closure for vermilion snapper for recreational harvest has been removed and the season will remain open year round (or until the annual catch limit has been reached). Previously, there was a November 1 through March 31 closure each year for recreational harvest of the species. However, the seasonal closure was eliminated earlier this year after a recent stock assessment showed that vermilion snapper were not undergoing overfishing nor overfished and the stock had rebuilt. Management measures to increase the commercial and recreational annual catch limit and remove the seasonal closure for recreational harvest of vermilion snapper were put into place and effective September 5, 2013 See the NOAA Fisheries South East Regional Office page on Snapper Grouper Regulatory Amendment 18 for the full story on these management measures... sero.nmfs.noaa.gov/sustainable_fisheries/s_atl/sg/2013/reg_am18/index.html
