Recruiting: 2014 Brandone Francis April 21, 2013 Recruiting: 2014 Brandon Francis The Minnesota Golden Gophers are among the growing list of schools showing significant interest in 2014 guard Brandone Francis (you’ll also see his name frequently spelled Brandon). Francis is a strong 6’5″ guard from the Dominican Republic and is capable of playing several positions. We project his best position being a strong off guard in college. He’s also a talented passer and good enough with the ball that he could play some point, depending on the school and situation. In addition, Francis is big and strong enough to play as a third guard/small forward. Defensively, he should be able to guard several positions as well. Nice basketball IQ. In May of 2012 he landed on his arm after dunking on Cliff Alexander (2014 Top 10 recruit from Chicago, Ill.) and suffered a break that required surgery. The injury kept some from schools from seeing him last summer, but the attention on him will be heavy in the coming weeks. Other notes on Brandone Francis: Playing for Arlington Country Day high school (Fla.) this season afforded Francis the opportunity to team up with several high major D1 prospects and play tough competition throughout the year. Now running with Florida Elite (adidas) this spring/summer. Has had a strong showing so far this weekend at the adidas Exclusive Run in Texas. Smart, skilled player who can pass or get into the paint to score. Can knock down an open look, but we like him best attacking. Francis is older than some of his competition (currently 18; will turn 20 in September of his freshman year in college). A couple of years ago there would have been more questions on whether his physical maturity/advantage over others was a primary contributor to his play. However, it has become clear that he can and will continue to use his physicality to his advantage even against bigger, talented competition. Has represented the Dominican Republic in international play. Led his team in scoring (16.8 ppg; also had 7.6 rpg and 3.2 apg) in the 2011 Centrobasket U17 championship. His team finished with a record of 3-2. Second in scoring for the team with 15.8 per game was the highly talented Karl Towns.
