Redemption Road At the place where I should’ve stood Needing to be on trial As they levied my charges against His name Silent He stood, off’ring no denial Of course I was guilty So named they Him, though He was innocent Knowing it should’ve been mine They saddled Him with my punishment Time had come so they burdened Him Weighted down, He bore the load There was a price to pay, a debt to settle At the end of Redemption Road It was for the ones who would hate Him And for the ones that He’d call friend He did it to buy back His children From their slavery to sin Onward He traveled down that road With each step, all He could see was me With that His heart was forever glad As He saw us together for an eternity The beating, the torture, all taking its toll But He could not be deterred For Him to step in and take my place This was what He preferred Because He knew I was too weak Too frail to survive it all So for me He stood in at the whipping post If it was for only me, He’d still take the fall At the end of Redemption Road With His last steps, He climbed the hill So the Father could adopt us back In accordance to His will As they nailed His left hand to the cross He said sir don’t forget the right My children are all counting on me For them I will win this fight My nails secured in His hands and feet Elevated, they displayed Him before the rest Fulfilling all the words of old Raised up like the snake in the wilderness He hung there on high long enough To garner one more prize While paying for me, He told one more This day you’re with Me in Paradise The rocks were split, the veil was torn For us He had opened the door Father forgive them for they know not While His blood did steadily pour As the deafening silence shattered the air When this part of His purpose was done Even the soldier recognized That surely this was God’s Son You see this was all the reason He had departed His Heavenly abode To birth Grace and Mercy at the place of the skull At the end of Redemption Road After they removed my nails from His hands From my cross they lowered Him Ghost given up, He slumped forward At that moment revealing them I saw them there, there were my stripes Across His bloodied and beaten back My precious Savior, the innocent Lamb Had not survived the attack He lived His entire life to show me how And to give me life He freely died From behind the stone, the buried was raised So that I could now be justified Ascending through the air back to His throne Giving us His final words of worth Commissioned the spread of the Good News By His power to the ends of the earth Religious folk saw Redemption Road as the end But little did they know That Redemption Road was just the beginning Of the Love He came to show Death was defeated, hell was defeated The grave was defeated too To buy us back, to bring Victory Redemption Road was what He had to do
