Reds Dive Log: #1427 Gould Island 8/6/13 The Bay was like glass and I took our newest employee at Giant Stride Dive Shop, Nate, out for a dive on my boat to check out his skills. He did pretty well navigating through the maze of fallen pilings and construction debris. With viz so short spearfishing was difficult but I still got 3 Tautog one sweet 22” chinner and 2 18 inchers. I sent Nate home with a couple of fillets for dinner, washed down the boat and gear. Just another great day in the Ocean State on Narragansett Bay Max depth of 32’ ft for 45 minutes in 62 degree water with 6’ viz.. #1428 PT Teti Wreck 8/7/13 Dan C, Mike M, Paul and Tim, a Naval Officer in town to get married at the Towers in Narragansett, joined us for a Giant Stride Dive Shop Wreck Charter aboard The Argonaut. The seas were smooth as silk and it promised to be a great day. After hooking up to the wreck John and I helped everyone suit up and get in. As I donned my gear I noticed a 30-35 foot sailboat bearing down on us on our port sidefrom 100 feet away, 4’dive flag is up and they must be tacking, right? 70’, 50’ 30’ I START YELLING HEY WHAT THE F*CK!!!! OH! ASSH*LE , then a head pops up from behind the doghouse with an astonished look and veered off missing our stern by 10-15 feet…..2 divers under, Tim & Paul waiting for me on the swim platform. We would have been T-Boned and cut in 2 because this fool was on auto pilot and he blamed his wife who was supposed to be keeping an eye out. Keelhauling would be appropriate for both of these irresponsible sailors. I of course apologized for interrupting their nap and made a few suggestions for some anatomical rearrangements like pulling their heads out of their butts, then changed my shorts. I have had some close calls with other boats while diving but this was the closest yet. The dive was good and there was lots of marine life to enjoy although the viz was about 5’ shorter than Wednesday. Max depth of 103 ft for 48 minutes in 56 degree water with 15’ viz.. #1429 Neptune 2 Wreck 8/4/13 I dove last to undo our Jersey Rig and shoot some Tautog….Viz started at 10’ and decreased to just 2 or 3’ by the end of my dive….tide change. Still a good dive though and no friggin’ sailboats tried to kill us….A cannon would be an awesome addition to the dive boat! ARGHonaut matey...we’ll blast yer keel out from under yer scurvy arses if ya gets too close! Max depth of 83 ft for 49 minutes in 58 degree water with 10’-15’ viz.
