Redskins Oline: Those who claim our Oline is too light for pass - TopicsExpress

Redskins Oline: Those who claim our Oline is too light for pass protection and give up too many sacks are probably correct when the gameplan is to protect a pocketpasser who cannot get rid of the ball as fast as a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. However, here is the other side of the coin. Our runninggame was tops in 2012 behind RG3 before his injuries and Alfred Morris and a fast zoneblocking oline. Morris is a one cut thumper who seems to like contact. Thats exactly the kind of back that Shanahan prefers. Execution is the watchword of oline play. Shanahan will, eventually have about ten offensive linemen he can plug into a situation and go play. He has always done this. The pistol inside zone read will dissappear over time in Shanahans offense. It wont be because they cant run it. It will be to protect their investment in RGIII. Shanahan has a fertile offensive mind. The complete zone blocking running system is in Washington to stay as long as Mike is there. Dont be suprised if the pistol formation takes over a lot of the old shotgun snaps and there are new plays for the pistol that have never been seen on a field anywhere before. Shanahan wont call plays his team cant execute, so ths offensive line wil only get better over time. The core of the next great offensive line is there, now. I fully expect them to get better because Shanahan knows that guards decide if you can run the ball.
