Reducing Teacher Talking Time via @michaelgriffin. This blog post provides some useful points for reflection as well as practical tips for reducing TTT. Letting your students discover how language works rather than explicitly explaining it to them, is also something that was repeated many times in several of the workshops in Baden on the 21st September. For those of you who attended John Hughes workshop you may recall his use of video first, followed by group work and then review and facilitation, with the teacher. In this manner student engagement is increased and they have an opportunity to explore and be creative with language. They are actively involved in the learning process rather than being passive recipients. And as a consequence, TTT is reduced. Of course the level of scaffolding will depend on the age and level of your language learners, but nevertheless it is worth reflecting on our teaching practices and methods of refining practice. eltrantsreviewsreflections.wordpress/reducing-teacher-talking-time/
