Ref: The recent EIU report that revealed Singapore is the most expensive country. Some academics believe that locals should also enjoy same the standard of living as the expatriates and business travellers (as well as the rich and wealthy). They feel that locals should not be deprived of such goodies. They believe this can be done through better redistribution of wealth and measured immigration controls (ie. no more cheap labour so that our wages will rise). For those who advocate the above, maybe you can help make this a reality. Start by giving away 50% or half of your income to charity. Treat it as you are paying the same tax that those in the Nordic countries are paying (income redistribution). Maybe if these guys take the lead, more will follow, and very soon, there will be a greater distribution of wealth and everybody will enjoy a higher standard of living. If I believe in the above, I will put the money where my mouth is. But unfortunately, I dont believe in the above. :p
