Referee assault: 3 more players arrested July 10, 2014 in Soccer, Sport THREE more Black Rhinos players have been arrested in connection with the assault of referee Mercy Maimbo on Saturday during the NetOne Cup football final match at Rufaro Stadium. SPORTS REPORTER Two other suspects — Rufaro Machingura and Tariro Makumbe — were picked up by the police soon after the match and were supposed to appear before the court yesterday, but their case has been moved to Monday. This was after the complainant indicated that she was assaulted by six people and the police needed to track them down. Zifa administrator Obert Mamvura yesterday told NewsDay Sport that the other four Black Rhinos players whose names have been dragged in the case are Rutendo Makore, Kudakwashe Bhasopo, Eunice Chibanda and Joseline Elijah. Makore, Bhasopo and Chibanda all play for the Mighty Warriors. Mamvura said three of the suspects had been arrested and had joined Machingura and Makumbe in police custody. “I don’t have the finer details, but I understand three of the suspects have been arrested and one is still on the run,” Mamvura said. “The case has been postponed to Monday to give the police time to track the other suspect down.” The State is also expected to present a medical record to determine the extent of the injuries sustained by Maimbo during the assault. Mighty Warriors striker Machingura and Makumbe are alleged to have assaulted the referee after the match, which ended 2-2 in regulation time and eventually won 5-4 by Inline Academy in a penalty shoot-out.
