Reference: Roneo Clamor, SELDA spokesperson, 09175965859 Jail all plunderers, free all political prisoners! -- SELDA All political prisoners should be freed. All plunderers should go to jail. “There are 489 political prisoners in the country today. They were imprisoned because of their unwavering search for new avenues and alternative ideas for social change and development. The government considered them dangerously inimical to the current order and opposed to the interests of the class beneficiaries of this corrupt social system, thus,in Noynoy Aquino’s view they must be silenced,” said SELDA spokesperson Roneo Clamor. According to Clamor, the Aquino government uses hideous actions to suppress liberal and progressive ideas and incarcerate those who espoused it. “The real enemies of the people are the plunderers of the nation’s wealth, and the worst of human rights violators. They should be the ones held in jail instead of the political prisoners who are the true servants of the people,” added Clamor Political prisoners, meanwhile, issued stataments lambasting the Aquino government’s selective prosecution of oppositionist politicians allegedly involved in the pork scam while leaving his allies free of any charges. They voiced their call to all those who are involved in plunder and corruption to be held accountable and that Noynoy Aquino and his allies should be held liable as he was the recipient of the biggest share of the pork system thru the disbursement acceleration program (DAP) and presidential funds. “Sa halip na patuloy at palalong inaapi at pinagmamalupitan sa kulungan ng mga bulok at tiwaling naghahari, kaming mga bilanggong pulitikal ay dapat pa ngang palayain lahat!” (Instead of the rotten and corrupt rulers’ continuous use of cruelty and repression while in detention, they should free us all political prisoners!) said political prisoners at the Special Intensive Care Area (SICA) of Camp Bagong Diwa in a statement read at the protest. The statement said,“Bakit pinalulusot ang mga nasa kapangyarihan at marami pang kasangkot nila sa pork barrel at binibigyan naman ng espesyal na mga pribilehiyo ang iilang pang-sample lamang na kinasuhan at ikinulong na nasa oposisyon, samantalang kaming mga bilanggong pulitikal na walang kasalanan sa bayan, bagkus ay inaresto at ikinulong sa batayan ng mga gawa-gawang kaso, dahil lamang sa aming makatarungang paglalaban sa mga krimen at katiwalian ng mga naghahari sa gubyerno, estado at lipunan, ay pinadaraan sa samut saring pang-aapi at kalupitan, pati na rito sa kulungan?” (Why absolve those in power and everybody else involved in the pork barrel scam while giving special privileges to a few from the opposition charged with plunder…while we, political prisoners who have not wronged the people were arrested and detained on the basis of trumped-up charges; because we fight for what is just, against the crimes and plunder of the powerful in government, state and society, made to suffer different forms of oppression and cruelty, even in detention?) “Kailangang lahat sila ay maisakdal, matanggal at managot upang lubos na mapuksa ang mga ginawa at patuloy nilang ginagawang kahindik-hindik na mga pandarambong at katiwalian, at lubhang pagsasakripisyo sa interes at kapakanan ng masyado nang naghihirap at naghihikahos na mamamayan (All of them should be prosecuted, removed from power and made accountable to fully eliminate all their wrongdoings and their perpetual plunder and corruption, at the expense of the interests and welfare of the impoverished and struggling people),” the statement added. In another message, convicted political prisoners at the New Bilibid Prisons urged the Filipino to people to continue with protests against plunderers and butchers as a way to hold them accountable, and to pursue genuine freedom and peace. “Mas dapat paigtingin ng pinagsasamantalahan at inaaping mamamayan ang kanila mismong pang-uusig sa mga pusakal na kriminal na mandarambong sa kabang yaman ng bansa at may utang na dugo sa taumbayan, sa pamamagitan ng mas pinag-ibayong ibat ibang porma ng paglaban. Ito lamang ang magtitiyak sa paglalapat ng tunay na hustisya, katarungan, kalayaan at pangmatagalang kapayapaaan sa bansa (The oppressed and exploited people should heighten their actions in holding the plunderers, and those who have blood debts against the people accountable for their crimes, through different forms of struggle. This is the only way to ensure that justice will be served, and there will genuine freedom and peace in the country).” 8th year of abduction, disappearance remembered Families of desaparecidos also remembered June 26, the 8th year since UP students Karen Empeño and Sherlyn, along with farmer Manuel Merino, were abducted by military elements in Hagonoy, Bulacan. Five others were abducted on the same day in Camarines Norte, namely Prudencio Calubid, Celina Palma, Gloria Soco and Ariel Beloy. “Eight years after and all of them remain missing, more victims of human rights fall prey into the hands of the butchers, torturers and wild dogs in the military and government. They use all their might to silence the people, while letting the likes of the butcher, Gen. Jovito Palparan, roam around with impunity,” said Aya Santos, Desaparecidos secretary general. According to Santos, the Aquino government is not only a coddler of plunderers but also a coddler of butchers. “Palparan and other military officials, who killed, abducted and tortured people continue to evade justice. After eight years, those who abducted and disappeared our loves ones remain unpunished for their crimes despite the enactment of the Anti-Torture Law and the Anti-Enforced Disappearance Law. The Aquino government feasts on the arrest of two senators, while sitting dumb on the arrest of Palparan and other perpetrators. Human rights violations continue unabated because the Aquino government reigns with impunity. If BS Aquino cannot stop enforced disappearances and torture, then he should go,” Santos ended. ###
