Reflection: I just saw Bill Shorten on the National Press Club - TopicsExpress

Reflection: I just saw Bill Shorten on the National Press Club on ABC TV...which made me reflect on the past election...hmmmm...lets see...it seem that the last election was won by Tony Abbott on demagogy, a few populist slogans...is this what democracy in Australia had stooped to?...in many ways the Abbott Government is a no surprises government that any educated electorate would expect from the man...his policies are consistent with his historical beliefs...but in the election the main slogans were stop the boats, repeal the Carbon Tax, the budget is out of control, Julia Gillard is a liar and cannot be trusted...really!!!!!....stop the boats as the prime national issue was embarrassing...20000 people or so coming to Australia by illegal boat arrival...it is cringe Worthing that this issue was at the forefront of so many voters especially in Western Sydney...20000 arrivals in four or five years...fair dinkum!!!!!...repealing the Carbon Tax has meant some modest savings in electricity bills... a few dollars when some Pacific Islands are under threat...fair dinkum!!!!...Australias debt ratio was the lowest in the OECD!!!...about Julia being a liar...well hasnt he broken some promises!!!... sure populist slogans will win you elections but you have to knuckle down and govern with vision...hopefully in the upcoming 2016 election the result will be based on what the Parties stand for and not appeal to the baser instincts of the majority of voters...
