Reflection Matthew 5 : 14 - 16, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. NKJV As Christians, we are instructed by Jesus to be a reflection of the Truth and a demonstration of His nature to those around us. Therefore, when others witness our daily actions, our lives should bring glory to God. Jesus said in verse 14 that we (believers) are the light of the world. Nevertheless, if you read all the verses, youll see Jesus point out that were not the source of the light; we are merely a reflection of His light which shines through our good works. In order to understand more clearly what Jesus was conveying to us lets look at a physical example of how light works. Go into a dark room and turn on the light. Look at the bulb, and you will see the source that supplies the light which has filled the room. Now, look at the contents of the room. Did you know that youre not seeing the objects in the room at all? Youre really taking in the reflection of the light that bounces off of the objects into your eyes. When it comes to physical light, we can see the source of light and its reflection, but we cant see the rays of light as they travel through the air. So it is with us as Christians. When we live and love as Christ, and others see our good works, Jesus said it brings glory to God and not to us. You see; God is the source of the Light, and we are the reflection of His Light. Christians (the Church) are the only ones that have been given the privilege and responsibility of representing God to this dark world. Therefore, take full advantage of this honor and reflect the love of Christ to those who need Him the most. Be like Paul, wrote in Romans 1 : 16 - 17, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, The just shall live by faith. NKJV Be His Reflection to this Hurting World, Pastor Asa Dockery
