Reflection: We express impatience in many ways. Sometimes we are - TopicsExpress

Reflection: We express impatience in many ways. Sometimes we are overeager--maybe we cant wait to find out what presents we are receiving for Christmas and we sneak around to find out. Sometimes we express impatience in our intolerance of others--maybe we find others to be too slow to do a task we could do easily ourselves and we criticize their performance. Sometimes we express impatience in anxiety--maybe we have to wait for medical test results and we make ourselves ill worrying about them. Sometimes we express impatience with annoyance--maybe we want immediate gratification for our needs and become exasperated when we have to wait. Impatience springs from self-centeredness. We think the world revolves around us and our personal needs. We want immediate satisfaction and we try to control the lives of the people around us in order to have our needs met. We have lost sight of God, our true center. When we live with God at our center, we learn to pray for what we need and leave the outcome in Gods hands. We come to trust that God will answer our prayers appropriately. We accept that we are powerless to change other people. We recognize that life events are sometimes out of our control. We find the courage to change ourselves so that we are more loving, compassionate, and respectful of others needs. We become more skilled at practicing patience and discover a new serenity in our lives. Ponder: When do I express impatience? Prayer: Lord, when I call on you, you always answer. Grant me the patience to wait for your reply. Practice: Today I will pray for serenity; I will fast from impatience; I will take time to teach someone a new skill.
