Reflection on July 6 RESTING Mt 11: 25-30 Thoughts create emotions. Thats why it is important for peace of mind to entertain only thoughts that build us, that make us whole and not divide us. Anger, resentment, envy and jealousy divide us. If we entertain them too much, we will end up restless and agitated. Jesus wants to give us peace, but we must first be childlike. Children sleep so soundly and spent some 12 to15 hours daily in bed. It is not because they are tired but because they enjoy inner peace, especially when they are near their loved ones that embrace and care for them. Love floods their hearts. The experience of love is the ground of all peace. Negative emotions come from our struggles to be the number one, to have more and possess all. Resentment, anger, jealousy and anger come from the conflicts we create because of our individualistic activities. To become children is to leave behind our selves and this terrible world and be in the warmth embrace of Jesus, to bathe in his love. To become children again is really a decision to be dependent on Jesus and put all our trust in him. The best time to gauge whether we have inner peace is how we spend our mornings. We make an effort not to allow any thought to enter except the thought about Jesus and utter his name in prayer. Throwing out thoughts about money, friends and relatives, problems and victories, impure thoughts would enable us to enter into a childlike posture of dependency. And this is when we encounter Jesus and enjoy his peace.
