Reflections- Living Real Posted by Pastor Chike Ume Could you pause, think and try to answer these questions: 1. Name the 5 richest people in the world 2. Name the last 5 Miss Universe winners 3. Name the last 10 Nobel prize winners 4. Name the last 10 winners of the Best actor Oscar Cant do it? Rather difficult, isnt it? Dont worry, nobody remembers that cos Applause dies away! Trophies gather dust! Certificates wear out! Winners are soon forgotten! Now, pause, try and answer these questions: 1. Name 3 teachers who contributed to your education 2. Name 3 friends who were there in your hour of need 3. Think of a few people who made you feel special 4. Name 3 people who you owe some gratitude for helping mould you into who you are today 5. Name 5 people that youd like to spend time with More manageable? its easier, isnt it? why? its cos The people who mean something to your life are not always rated the best, dont have the most money, havent won the greatest prizes.. They are the ones who care about you, take care of you, those who no matter what, stay close by. Think about it for a moment.. Life on earth is very short! Even if you were given 300years, it will still finish. And you, in which list are you? Dont know? Let me give you a hand.. You are not among the most famous but among those to whom I remember to send this note. Sometime ago, at the Seattle Olympics, nine athletes, all mentally and physically challenged, were standing on the start line for the 100metres race. The gun fired and the race began. Not everyone was running but everyone wanted to participate and win. They ran in threes.. a boy tripped and fell, did a few somersaults and started crying. The other eight heard him crying. They slowed down and looked behind them. They stopped and came back...All of them... . A girl with downs syndrome sat down next to him, hugged him and asked, feeling better now? They helped him up and all nine walked shoulder to shoulder to the finish line. The whole crowd stood up and applauded. The applause lasted a very long time.. People who witnessed this still talk about it. Why? Because deep down inside us, we all know that the most important thing in life is much more than winning for ourselves. The most important thing in this life is to help others to win. Even if that means slowing down and changing our own race. Herein lies our true purpose in life- to discover God thus discover ourselves and to help others find their destiny in Him. A discovery of God is a discovery of you, for we are the man-kind i.e man-version, man-representation, man-type of Him. Until a man locates Himself in God he is merely existing not living. Hes not much different from Bingo the dog in the neighborhood..just balancing the eco-system so that the beasts of the field dont multiply against the sons of men. Here lies our mission- reconnecting disconnected people. A candle loses nothing when it lights another candle. You are the light of the world..Shine your light..Shine like the star that you are..spreading your light wherever you are. And always remember that the thoughtful little things we do everyday have an accumulated effect on all our tomorrows. Selah!
