Reflections from the Manton Apple Festival- I knew that crossing - TopicsExpress

Reflections from the Manton Apple Festival- I knew that crossing this off of my bucket list would be a really fun experience. There are a few things; however, that I did not foresee 1. Consuming that much pie caused what surely must have been diabetic shock. 2. I had no clue that apple pie could be a relative term, in that I was amazed that something with essentially the same ingredients could taste so many different ways. 3. I failed to consider that MANY people would enter a pie (we tasted nearly 20) 4. I had not expected that so many people would be watching us eat pie, looking for our reactions and sending us mind bullets as we ate. 5. I hadnt realized how many people I have affected in profound ways through my column and that they would choose to tell me that while I was in a pie corral doing my darnedest to be one with the pies. (so flattering and yet so awkward as I wielded my plastic fork in between thank yous to passers by) 6. I am amazed at the culinary pie skillz of children, seeing as most of the best pies were in that division. 7. I am amazed that there were divisions of pies. 8. I realized that there are certain spice combinations that my tongue simply does not like in an apple pie. 9. While one of my esteemed judge mates loves crunchy apples in his pie, I prefer soft and I think our scores probably canceled one another out. 10. eating pie sans ice cream is NOT the life for me. all in all it was a GREAT experience and I thought I was doing really well until Stephanie Bonham Dodero sent me a pic of a pie she was baking and I kinda felt woozy.
