Reflections on Mondays visit with a delegation of Polish Holocaust educators: FFEU Muslim-Jewish Program Director spoke on August 12 to a delegation of Polish Holocaust educators from the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, who were in the U.S. on a State Department-sponsored mission to learn about Holocaust education in the U.S. During the meeting, which was held at the United States Mission to the United Nations, Ruby spoke to the delegation about FFEUs ongoing mission to build ties of communication, reconciliation and cooperation between Muslims and Jews around the world, including in Europe, where there have been high profile anti-Semitic incidents and relations between the two communities have been strained since the eruption of the Israel-Gaza war in early July. Ruby and members of the delegation compared notes about their respective efforts to build ties of understanding and friendship among communities separated by ethnic and religious barriers, (the educators are devoted to strengthening ties between mainly Catholic Poles and Israeli Jews) and agreed that the key component of their common work is to bring people from estranged communities together on a person-to-person level so that they can get to know each other and experience empathy for the Other.
