Reflections on the BCP Bus Tour Its been a week since the BCP launched its campaign bus tour. After my nomination as the BCP Presidential candidate I have been able to address public meetings in various places and meet Batswana from different walks of life. On the first day we held rallies in Ramotswa, Otse, Lobatse, Molapowabojang and Kanye. We have been to many other places in the Kgalagadi North constituency, Gantsi North and South and Ngami. In addition to spreading the BCP election message, I have been able to meet a number of people who shared their experience in their localities. We visited one primary school in the North West which has not had toilets for over a year. The pit latrines they had are full and cant be used any more and students have to use the bush behind the school to relief themselves. Teachers do not have some of the text books needed and depend on photocopied material which is also inadequate because their copier broke down last year and is still to be fixed. There are 3 classes in the school that do not have teachers. I dont think it will surprise anyone that the North West has one of the highest failure rates in the country. There is a widespread language barrier in the district. A lot of students come from families that do not use setswana as their first language. All teachers I have interacted with agree that the introduction of mother tongue instruction is absolutely necessary. The series of rallies that we have been addressing have not been covered by Btv. It is clear that a decision has been made to subject the BCP to a news black out. We will be meeting Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo today to establish why we do not deserve coverage for our campaign as the BCP.
