Reflections on todays’s message at Killian Hill Baptist Church by Chris Anderson on Philippians 2:5-11 (The Passion and Glory of Christ). • Humility - the way “up” is “down.” • Trust - a sacrifice you can believe in. • Emptied Himself - Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see; Hail, the incarnate Deity. • God in human form - he was no less God as man, and no less man yet sinless. • Condescension of Christ - 2 Cor. 8:9 - And took upon Him the form of a servant. >>> A.W. Pink: “The glory of His person was not in the slightest degree diminished when He became incarnate, though it was (in measure) concealed by the lowly form of the servant He assumed. Christ was still equal with God when He descended to earth. It was The Lord of glory (1 Cor. 2:8) whom men crucified. >>> Jonathan Edwards: “There do meet in Jesus Christ, infinite highness, and infinite condescension. Christ, as he is God, is infinitely great and high above all. He is higher than the kings of the earth; for he is King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. He is higher than the heavens, and higher than the highest angels of heaven. So great is he, that all men, all kings and princes, are as worms of the dust before him, all nations are as the drop of the bucket, and the light dust of the balance; yea, and angels themselves are as nothing before him. He is so high, that he is infinitely above any need of us; above our reach, that we cannot be profitable to him, and above our conceptions, that we cannot comprehend him … And yet he is one of infinite condescension. None are so low, or inferior, but Christ’s condescension is sufficient to take a gracious notice of them. He condescends not only to the angels, humbling himself to behold the things that are done in heaven, but he also condescends to such poor creatures as men; and that not only so as to take notice of princes and great men, but of those that are of meanest rank and degree, “the poor of the world” (James 2:5).” • It is finished! Philippians 2:8 - The last stop, the descent to the cross. The climax of perfect and absolute humility & obedience. • The capstone of our hope (Philippians 2:9-11) - He is exalted, Christ’s crowning achievement. >>> Steven Cole @ Bible.org: “On earth, those who have tasted His sovereign grace will bow willingly before Jesus. Others, including many of the mightiest, most powerful men who have ever lived--great kings, wealthy tycoons, evil drug lords--will bow against their wills, but they will bow. Under the earth, Satan and all his powerful demonic forces will bow before the Lord Jesus Christ. These demons have been granted tremendous power.” • Worship the Lamb of Glory Thank you God!
