Regarded as one of the first generation artists of post-independence India, Ramkumar’s contemporaries included names likes MF Husain, FN Souza, SH Raza and Akbar Padamsee. The artist’s artistic journey began at Sharada Ukil school of Art from where he later went to Paris and trained under Andre Lhote and Fernand Legar. The 20th century modernism in Paris, Vienna and London served as an inspiration for him, combined with inherent Indianness. Ramkumar as an artist has evolved from his short-lived figurative phase into a master of abstractions. The drawings of Ramkumar reflect sheer beauty through perfect lines, creating an experience for the viewers. Drawings presented in the show are a sensitive charting of the happenings around in fine lines.
