Regarding Berkeley Sweet Shops, I still firmly believe Seaside - TopicsExpress

Regarding Berkeley Sweet Shops, I still firmly believe Seaside Heights should move fast & get approvals for a mirroring series of boardwalk stands to fill the side of the boardwalk where we can currently see the ocean. Make it like Point Pleasant where there are stands on both sides of the boardwalk. There will be big dunes in front of the current boardwalk within the next couple years that will prevent seeing the ocean from the boardwalk anyway. Why not create a doubling of the existing boardwalk stands to give more attractions to see. ** Offer the new stands at reduced rates initially to the businesses that disappeared in the boardwalk fire such as Berkeley Sweet Shops. Also give them 0% taxes to incentivize them to continue their unique businesses that are the culture of the boardwalk. It is what brings people from hundreds of miles away. ** When the unique boardwalk culture is gone, so will Seaside Heights for travelers other than a 50 mile radius of the town. The clock is ticking. Seaside Heights can grab a share of the Seaside Park boardwalk businesses if they act fast. Once the dunes are built it will never be approved. **NOW** is the only opportunity. Be realistic. There is not enough on the boardwalk to bring people from far away. See the 2014 season as an example. The economic implosion will continue. Leadership can change it now. Soon, the opportunity will be gone & irreversible. Will Seaside Heights make the decision to develop the undeveloped side of the boardwalk & help bring back businesses such as Berkeley Sweet Shops & not be held hostage to the developers in Seaside Park? *OR* Will Seaside Heights make the decision to permanently leave the empty side of the boardwalk unavailable for businesses & set in place the reduction of the tourist industry in the town? One of the two decisions will be made within the next couple months. Lets hope they realize what is required in the Post-Sandy & Post-Fire environment. The clock is ticking... The opportunity is there.
