Regarding a discussion in his philosophy class yesterday on the nature of miracles, a friend presented me with the following question: Does God cause miracles or has science just not found a way to explain these things? I responded both, to which he replied, then how would one define a miracle? My answer was predetermined phenomena not measurable by current scientific methods. My friend then went on to make the following conjecture: So you are saying that science could explain everything. Could you imagine something that science could not explain? Ive got one. What if all the stars aligned at once to spell out the Book of Genesis? My response: I didnt say that science could explain everything. How could a human being, with our limited physical brains, be able to quantify or measure infinite intelligence? Our souls [to use the term for the sake of analogy, and not arguing either for or against the existence thereof; consciousness may also be substituted] could go through an exponentially increasing number of levels or planes of consciousness and still not be able to comprehend infinity; until, maybe, we rejoin with the source of infinity since we are, after all, extensions of it. I would ponder that more, than trying to figure out why the stars are spelling out the Book of Genesis. That would be just one aspect of the infinite attributes and manifestations of infinite intelligence. No point in focusing on the details. Which brings us back to the question of whether or not infinite intelligence necessarily exists; though arguments can be made for either side, it seems to me that it necessarily does. Referring to my previous post on the Electric Ministrys page, regarding a philosophical proposition that I am now calling Hunters Theorem (named after my dog), which reflects on the notion of whether or not it is possible for one to unlock every door in an infinite rabbit hole, the only answer I can conceive is that the only one who could open every door in an infinite rabbit hole, is the one that put them there.
