Regarding the 1921 census of Barbers Bay and the Gervais and - TopicsExpress

Regarding the 1921 census of Barbers Bay and the Gervais and Shultz Family. We had a hell of a time finding it because its under the Districkt 129 Temiskaming and is not considered part of Timmins like I assumed it was. The area you may be looking for is the Subdistrict of Dundonald. This is how I found the Gervais Photo, no. 1. The other districts covered under this section is McKlem or McKean, Evelyn, Hoyle Station, the township of Germain, Matheson, Fielding, Barbers Bay, Cody, Connaught, and Kelso. I dont know if you guys have these photos but if you dont I hope they are satisfactory. Sadly as far as these areas are concerned, this is all I have: Norma or Norman Malette, Matheson. Sam Black, Germain Township, George David, German Township and Edward and William David, Germain Township. There are no Gervais, or Romain or Shultz at all in the area. However I did find a Jules Gervais around 1919 or in that vicinity who made a border crossing to the US. A lot of our ancestors did do that temporarily looking for work. Jules went on his own, so I will continue to keep looking. Also just to let you know, other people for some reason have taken on the task of also looking. I have people on here who are not members who have been a tremendous help here for some members. Judi can attest to that.: ) In a previous post regarding the Gervais and the Romains of Fort Coulonge, I had mentioned that one of them went to live with the Jewell Family. This is the man. Photo no. 2 is Jules Gervais father Elie and Flavie. Camille Gervais another member of the family, A Philip Gervais, The fifth one is a little tricky and the last one was found by fluke while checking the 1921 census of DunDonald. Hope these can help. As far as Jules if there is anyone around that is alive in the Gervais family that would remember if some of the family did run to the US, I can forward what I have found. That is probably why he is not in any of the censuses . We may have to look for a US census just for that time. As far as the Shultz families, there is no mention of the name in the 1921 censuses of these areas so Timmins would have to be the next one to look into. Hopefully this will help a bit. The Gervais stones were found in St Peters of Mansfield Quebec. The DunDonald was the closest cemetery where they would have been brought to (Yvonne) so that was the place to look for. As far as Hill Crest Cemetary in Matheson, someone has to run there and volunteer to take the photos for the gravemarker galler of Ontario. I called.
