Regarding the IRS bonus story, it is worth pointing out that last year, the House considered a bill to deal with this issue. The bill, H.R.249 - Federal Employee Tax Accountability Act of 2013, would prohibit any employee of the federal government from continuing employment if the employee has a seriously delinquent tax debt. The bill received 250 yes votes (including me) against 159 no votes. However, because the bill was considered under a procedure requiring 2/3s for passage, the vote failed.
