Regarding the imputed righteousness (from the active obedience) of Christ, N. T. Wright, on page 60 of What Saint Paul Really Said, explains that… “Righteousness is not an object, a substance or a gas which can be passed across the courtroom…the righteousness they (believers) have will not be God’s own righteousness. That makes no sense at all” The immediate question that comes to mind in response to this terse and, perhaps sarcastic jab is: is my sin an object or gas which can be passed across the courtroom? If not, then from whence is Jesus made sin and a curse? “The one not having known sin…ho me ginosko harmartia…on behalf of us sin he made…hyper hemon harmartian epoisen…that we might become rightness of God in him…hina ego ginomai dikaisosyne theos en autos” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ brought us out from the curse of the law…Christos hemas exegorasen ek tes kataras tou nomos…having become on behalf of us a curse…ginomai hyper ego katara (Galatians 3:13a). Where did my sin go? Where did my curse go?
