Regarding today’s web post: I’ve received some hints that today’s web post may not have been accepted well by everyone in the community. I want to start off by apologizing for this. I would never want anyone to have an unpleasant experience on our website. We may have dove in to the topic a little too quickly. I would also like to explain that this topic was brought up in order to raise awareness for our upcoming Personal Defense Course. This course is designed to address the unfortunate reality that there are people in this world who physically harm other people, and how we can prevent this from happening. Part of this topic is understanding and accepting the fact that this is not always fun to talk about, and the reality of these situations can be very disturbing. Like all other areas of health and wellness, we aim to keep ourselves alive and healthy. In order to do this, we must face the truth about what could happen to us if we do not take the proper steps. Things like obesity, cancer, diabetes, etc are discussed on a daily basis in this field. These things are also a harsh reality and we work every day to avoid and prevent them. In the Personal Defense arena, we discuss violence in the same nature we discuss sickness in the health and fitness world. After spending so much time studying this topic, I guess I’ve become more open with the subject. I am still disgusted by the actions I see and the thought of something like this happening to one of my members (read: family) is the driving factor in providing this service. However, I apologize if you are not as comfortable with these topics. I should have provided further warning in the original post, I have gone back and edited it now. The psychological aspects of these encounters are the main priority of the course. Knowing how to react, being confident in the situation, and giving yourself permission to fight back are the main goals of the class. Today’s post was designed to challenge your thoughts on street attacks. Kind of like the baseline workout in CrossFit makes you think, “hmmm… maybe I’m not in as great of shape as I thought. I better get my act together” The questions asked today may have lead you to think, “hmmm… I wouldn’t really know what to do if that happened to me. I hope it never does. How can I make sure I keep myself and my family safe?” I hoped the questions provoked thought and helped you face the truth about your current abilities to defend against an attack. I hope the topic did not make you uncomfortable. Just so you are aware, the course will spend ample time discussing these real life scenarios. This not a class to learn karate kicks. You will be emotionally challenged to make decisions on your willingness to fight back and not be a victim. Not 1 person in those videos thought they were going to be attacked that day. Not 1. We never know when it could happen. We just need to decide if we are going to be an attack victim, or an attack survivor. We may have to dig deep to help you find out, but I am confident anyone in my class will be better prepared for this. Knowing my members are better equipped with the skills to protect themselves will make me very happy. Any situation in those videos can happen to anyone, that’s why they were posted. They aren’t some over whelming Hollywood violence that some sicko director got too creative with. They are real. Again, I apologize if you were caught off guard. I just want everyone to think about their current abilities in this field and what they can do to improve. This is the most important skill I hope you never have to use. -Brian
