Regardless of what problems occur due to the state taking over - TopicsExpress

Regardless of what problems occur due to the state taking over Logan County schools, I place complete blame on the State and their requirement that all students take a standardized test, better known as the WESTEST. First and foremost, nicely put, its naive to assume or expect that giving hundreds (maybe thousands?) of children and teenagers a test that in no way, shape, or form contributes to their final grades or to them advancing to the next grade level will actually be taken serious. Second, (and I cant stress this enough) not everyone learns and tests the same way. Read it again: not everyone learns and tests the same way. Every person has a different way of learning and every person has their own personal strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion, standardized testing is an extremely good way to get extremely inaccurate results concerning how and what criteria has been taught in the classroom for that school year. The time teachers have to take preparing us for the WESTEST is time that could be spent teaching us valuable things that will benefit us in every day life. And, to be honest, Im sure teachers would rather be teaching us useful information instead of things like how to apply the word log to a math equation. The WESTEST is nothing more than a book full of stupidity constructed to waste precious time. The idea of WESTEST scores indicating the knowledge and ability of students and teachers within a school is foolish. If it indicates anything at all, its that were smart enough to know that there are more important things in life to worry about and learn about than a test that means nothing.
