Regensburg - a city where life is a pleasure: Regensburgs 150.000 inhabitants make it the fourth-largest city in Bavaria today. It is ancient as far as its history is concerned (which is so significant that UNESCO added the whole of the old town, parts of the islands in the Danube, and Stadtamhof as well, to its World Heritage List in 2006); yet it is youthful because of its lifestyle. In contrast with many other city centers, the residents have not been ousted by office-workers; the historic centre still has more than 12.000 inhabitants. The healthy mixture of shops, offices, flats, hotels, restaurants, cafés and discoteques keeps the city centre lively, on workingdays and holydays, in the daytime as well as at night. And it is because of the Roman heritage that life mainly takes place outdoors? The momentthe first sunbeam appers. the people here indulge in the almost Mediterranean habit of setting up tables and chairs outside cafés and restaurants both in the narrow alleys and in the many squares. This way of life is obviously savoured by Regensburgs inhabitants, who are full of joie de vivre, as well as by visitors from all over the world. Commerce and culture, hospitalityand shops, bustles and peace... all of these may be found and enjoyed inthe city centre in great variety.
